Biological filtration in your aquarium is done by activated carbon media for beneficial bacteria to grow, to convert ammonia waste from fish, food and plants into nitrites, then less harmful nitrates. This is done by adsorption, which means dissolved organic substances stick to the carbon by adhesion. The activated carbon stage improves water clarity in freshwater and marine aquariums, and needs to be replaced regularly as it becomes saturated, at least every 2 to 4 weeks. This carbon insert is for exclusive use with the Aquaclear 70/300 Power Filter.
