Activated carbon works by means of adsorption to provide the biological filtration stage of your aquarium. It promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria to break down ammonia and nitrites into nitrates. For exclusive use with the Aquaclear 110/500 Power Filter, this activated carbon insert needs replacing every 2 to 4 weeks as it becomes saturated. This filtration stage improves water clarity, and even adsorbs odours, impurities and discolouration from the water by adhesion.
